Hi guys! So this is hopefully the first of many entries about my journey to Africa! I have an amazing opportunity through Global Medical Brigades to go to Ghana and participate in medical missions. Global Brigades is a student run organization that empowers college students to go and partner with doctors living in country and administer healthcare to people in these impoverished nations. Alongside these doctors we will have the once in a lifetime opportunity to gain hands on medical experience which is vital for medical school. You may be thinking, Why? Why is Africa different than any other missions trip you have been on? I want to be a doctor and I hope to be able to practice medicine abroad. Looking around here in the U.S. there are clinics and hospitals everywhere, we practically live on a cruise ship. Turn on the news and you will see endless stories about poverty and lack in other countries. As a man I cannot bring myself to being just another doctor striving after the American dream when there is such need in the rest of the world. My desire is to serve others and meet the practical physical needs they have. I don't want to live a selfish life, the only way to live a fulfilling life is to give to others without expecting any return.
I believe that this is the path that God has called me to and I am seeking God's will for my life by listening and obeying when he leads me to go on these mission trips. About 4 months ago I learned about this trip and was enthralled by the vision of Global Brigades. After attending several informational meetings and bringing this trip before the Lord and my parents, I feel that not only will this trip broaden my worldview but this trip will be a good indication if I am up for the task ahead of me. I am so excited about all God has in store for me on this trip and I can't wait to be able to practice medicine in a foreign country. Even though this organization is not Christian based nothing will hold me back from praying for healing and that God's glory be shown through me as I love and serve the people of Ghana and my fellow teammates. To God be the glory!
*Stay tuned for more information concerning what I'll be doing in Ghana!
